Atlanta ranked No. 13 nationally on Forbes Advisor’s “The Best Cities For Renters Of 2023.”
Forbes Advisor evaluated the 96 most populated U.S. cities with available data across 23 different metrics to uncover the best cities for renters, according to the report. Some of the metrics include the size of one- and two-bedroom apartments or condos, the number of dog-friendly units, the median household income, the rate of crime and the share of cost-burdened renters.
Among the nearly 100 cities included, Atlanta ranked No. 1 for most spacious two-bedroom apartments, having an average of 1,102 square feet. It ranked No. 5 for most spacious one-bedroom, having an average of 770 square feet.
The analysis noted that Atlanta had a decrease of 2.9% in rent cost from June 2022 to June 2023.
Atlanta ranked in the lower half of the cities analyzed for share of cost-burdened renters, with 48.8% of the population paying more than 30% of their monthly income towards rent, based on the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s definition of affordable housing.

Which city ranked as the best place to rent?
Chandler, Arizona is ranked No. 1 as the best city to rent because of the 4.77% decrease in rental prices over the past year and the amount of space per unit. The average one-bedroom unit has 755 square feet, and the average two-bedroom unit has 1053 square feet.
Of note is Bakersfield, California that has an 18.18% decrease in yearly rent.
Which city ranked as the worst place to rent?
Newark, New Jersey ranked the lowest at No. 96 for the worst place to rent. Over 55% of its population are cost-burdened renters, and the household median income is $41,335.
